The Solar Power Project II

In 2007 I bought a set of 7 second hand solar panels. I installed them on the roof of my garage.

With the panels, the need arose to know how much power they are producing. Of course I could buy some meter to measure it, but occupied in hardware and software development I wanted to do better. This gave rise to the Solar Power project. During this project a system was created using a Beck IPC@Chip reading out a gross production pulse meter.

Anno 2026, the project has undergone a lot of changes. The IPC@Chip has been replaced by a Raspberry Pi. Not only does it read out the solar production, in also reads out the Dutch Smart Meter, measuring net energy consumption of the house.

In the meantime I moved to another home with a PV system of 5.500 Wpp. I refurbished the system and reinstalled it on 31-12-2025, enabling a real-time view on production and consumption on a webpage.

The software used is made available for the community on Github.
